Choose your base by what you plan to do
Where to stay in Rwanda depends less on the hotel than on the day that starts at it. Gorilla treks meet at 7:00 am, Akagera boat rides leave from 7:30 am, and Nyungwe's visitor centers open at 7:00 am. A bed close to the start saves a hard morning.
This guide is sorted by area, not by quality. It gives no room prices, because rates change by date and occupancy, and it names only places that are described by their operators. Check availability and what the rate includes directly with the accommodation. This site is an independent guide and does not take bookings.

Tours in Rwanda
Tours from Kigali and the parks, with live prices and availability. Check the meeting point against your base.
Kigali
Kigali is the capital and the usual place to land. Kigali International Airport is about 10 km from the city center. The Kigali Marriott Hotel is one example: it stands on KN 3 Avenue in Nyarugenge and the hotel states a distance of 11.3 km to the airport. The airport shuttle costs 45 USD one way or 90 USD return and must be reserved. Guest parking is free, check-in is at 3:00 pm and check-out at 12:00 noon.
The sights lie in different neighborhoods. The Kigali Genocide Memorial is in Gisozi, the Inema Arts Center in Kacyiru and Kimironko Market in Kimironko. Think about how you will move between them before you pick a district. The Kigali guide and the memorial page give the opening times.

Parks and the lake
The four other bases in Rwanda, by location.
Musanze and Kinigi
Musanze stands at 1,850 m. Accommodation is available both in town and at the edge of the park, and the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) treats them as separate options. The Kinigi park headquarters is 13 km from Musanze. Gorilla trekkers meet there at 7:00 am, as do golden monkey and Bisoke visitors. Match your choice of town or lodge to that early start, and do not rely on a guaranteed transfer time. See the Volcanoes National Park and gorilla trekking pages.
Akagera
The park manager lists Ruzizi Tented Lodge, Karenge Bush Camp, campsites and other private camps on its website. The entry fee for international adults is 100 USD for 1 day or night, 150 USD for 2 nights and 200 USD for 3 nights in 2026. After 3 nights there is no extra entry fee until a week in total. People who sleep outside the park pay for each visit day, so do not assume that a lodge nearby saves you money. See Akagera National Park.
Nyungwe
The park lists accommodation around Uwinka, Gisakura and Gisovu, plus the Munazi Eco Lodge, which the park manager announced in 2025. Being near the park does not decide the entry fee. Guests staying outside generally pay a daily fee, with an exception for contracted partner accommodation. Ask your lodge before you book. Guest inquiries go to guests.nyungwe@africanparks.org. Kamembe to Gisakura is about 45 km or 1 hour. See Nyungwe National Park.
Lake Kivu
Lake Kivu Serena Hotel is in Gisenyi on the lake, with a pool and a private beach for guests. It is not in Kigali. For the lake itself, the trail and boat rides, see Lake Kivu.
